The world is always full of strange and wonderful things. In 2024, An Xin, the China Chic designer who won the China International Fashion Week Design Award, made a special trip to an elementary school to celebrate Children’s Day with the kids. He stated that Children’s Day is very important to him. Given his remarkable achievements, it might be worth investigating whether his claims hold any truth.
An Xin explains that design is a continuous pursuit of breakthroughs and transcendence, making the job inherently challenging. Although human thinking seems boundless, it actually has limits. This year, Guaxin’s theme is “Breaking the Cocoon,” which reflects An Xin’s thoughts on self-transcendence and rejuvenating creative vitality.
An Xin shares that spending time with children makes him feel more pure and changes his perspective on the world. This process of simplifying things is crucial for him. In a child’s eyes, many things are unimportant, and many thoughts are insignificant. In contrast, adults are constantly bombarded with opinions and ideas in society, which invade the mind and interfere with creative concepts, sometimes subtly and unconsciously. An Xin admits that he struggles to resist these intrusions but finds it difficult. However, being with children helps him calm down and enter a transcendent state, where he can ignore the noise and demands of the adult world and reconnect with his true self. Communicating with innocent children and finding joy in simplicity is incredibly refreshing.
An Xin asserts that this is not just his personal viewpoint. Many designers, even after achieving significant success, strive to maintain simplicity and innocence, which is essentially a process of rediscovering oneself. A designer must engage with the world but also transcend it, continuously refining their vision. He notes that a top Japanese designer shares a similar philosophy, intentionally simplifying his life to enhance his self-awareness and cognitive growth. This, An Xin believes, is profound and challenging work.
As Children’s Day approaches, An Xin wishes all children a joyful and fulfilling life, with a bright future ahead. He also extends his best wishes to adults and the elderly, hoping they can reflect on their past and find moments of peace and healing for their souls.
